Intelius offers information services (like people search) and protection services (like reverse fone search, identity protection services, etc) among many other things. I used this service to trace the identity of a phone number. Spent 99 cents for this service. And totally forgot abt it at tht point. After 4 months i noticed tht my credit card was being charged 19.95 every month since i used their services. I Googled for intelius fraud, and found tht i am one of the hundreds or may be thousands of victims. Called the Intellius customer service at 888-445-2727. A brief transcript of the conversation is a below:
CS: Thx for calling IUS, how can I help you.
Me: I used Intellius services a while back to reverse look up a phone number, and I noticed today that I am being charged 19.95 every month.
CS: Yes sir, you used the 99 cent service (as opposed to $4.99 lookup, that charges 4.99 once) that has a 7-day free trial period before which if you do not cancel, the subscription fee will be charged every month until you cancel it.
Me: But, I never subscribed to this service.
CS: Yes sir, when you used this service online, you were taken through various pages (Page 1) - you will see a message here (Page -2) - You will see blah blah (Page - 3) - You accept to the terms and conditions blah blah blah....
Me: I never saw those pages during time.
CS: I can cancel you service right now sir, if u want me to.
Me: I would like to do that anyway, but I want my money back that you charged me for the last 4 months.
CS: Sorry sir, all I can do is to cancel the service. I will not be able to refund you anything.
Me: Is there anyone else I can talk to.
CS: Yes sir, they will not be able to do anything either. Would you like to talk to them.
Me: Of course f***er ( of course I said the last word softly...)

Supervisor: Yes sir, we can cancel you service right at this moment.
Me: No, I want my money back.
SV: we have been sending you emails every month whenever we charged your credit card.
Me: I never received any such emails.
SV: They might have gone to ur spam folder.
Me: There is not better destination for your kind of emails, but I do check my emails and spam every 2 hrs, and I never received any from Intelius. ( I might hav received, but I said I didnt).
SV: No sir, you did receive the emails.
Me: What the hell do you mean by "You did receive the emails", are you kidding me. When I said, I did not, I meant I did not receive ur stupid emails.
SV: OK sir, as a courtesy, I can issue a refund for 2 months.
Me: I was charged for 4 months, I and I want it all back.
SV: Sorry sir, all I can do is 2 months.
Me: I will file a complaint, no matter what, if I receive a penny less than what I was charged.
SV: OK sir, as a courtesy for this time, i will issue a refund for all the four months.
Me: I dont need ur courtesy, I just want my money back.
SV: Here is the confirmation number, you will notice 4 differents refunds, for month each.... Have a nice day.
Me: OK..

I will see if I can still file a complaint, even after receiving my money. These guys suck.
